About the Project

The client turned to Unicsoft with an idea of creating the first decentralized metaverse for education called Metable. With this platform, users can build their own schools, teach, tutor, collaborate, socialize, and have fun with millions of students across the globe. In this virtual world, specialist training is combined with a friendly and gamified environment. Opportunities for investments are made or earned by studying or participating in events created for this purpose.

Unicsoft provided full-cycle development for the blockchain component of Metable to ensure it delivers a user experience that is secure, seamless, and straightforward.

Business Challenges

In the metaverse, user avatars can work, study, and socialize from anywhere in the world as if they’re in person sitting around a table in the same room. The elimination of physical distances allows users to fully immerse in academic environments that deliver the experience of a modern campus bustling with enthusiastic students.
The central point of work on the Metable project for Unicsoft was to simplify the process of getting started within a metaverse. Getting started only takes minutes, and the experience allows anyone interested to start socializing and making the most of the features in the virtual environment.

Technical Challenges

Blockchain Network

We started by proposing and reviewing different types of blockchains that seemed most suitable for the platform. We went with the Polygon blockchain as a platform baseline because EVM-compatible solutions have proved to be more effective for such kind of a product:

operate with high trading volumes
relieve such pain points like high gas fees and slower speeds
do not sacrifice security
eliminate different transaction issues
smoothen the gaming experience for users

Data Storage

We also selected a decentralized type of NFT content/metadata storage, as it delivers greater business value at a lower cost.

NFTs

One of our biggest challenges was to choose a relevant token standard to ensure seamless user experience and smooth system performance. We stopped on a ERC-20 standard for utility and governance tokens for a number of reasons:

ERC-721/ERC-1155 standards, which we recommend the most for NFT use cases and are compatible with the most popular NFT marketplaces like Opensea, store only static data and can’t be updated
Metaverse items interact with each other and constantly change
Dynamic NFTs can evolve using both off-chain and on-chain computations, and smart contracts make this possible

Inside Metable teachers and schools are able to create and get paid from courses, events, lessons, and consultations.

Students are able to earn utility tokens from successful completion of courses, lessons, and verification quizzes.

Invest to Earn

Landowners have full ownership and control of the land purchased, and have opportunities to make money from exploiting their lands and buildings.

Play to Earn

All users can participate in the Quiz Games and earn tokens that can reinvest to find work or to start a business.

Development scope

The blockchain component of the Metable MVP that Unicsoft developed introduces the following system elements:

Blockchain ecosystem

Set up & development of the key blockchain components: smart contracts, tokens minting functionality, DAO features.

Blockchain admin panel

A web app that allows admins to utilize the platform's NFT & user management functions.

Marketplace

A web app that gives users the ability to trade primary metaverse assets.

Infrastructure components set up (backend, microservices, databases, message brokers), microservices integration with the Another Reality backend.

Integration with Web3 wallet for signing transactions
The platform’s NFTs are compatible with the Opensea/Rarible marketplace to allow users to resell their tokens on these platforms
Support of credit card payments along with crypto payments
The system automatically mints NFT during purchase operations
The platform allows admins to set their royalties for all NFTs created on the platform’s smart contracts
The platform deducts its transaction fee from defined payments/operations
The platform stores NFT metadata in IPFS
